Dentures and Partial Dentures
Restore Your Complete Smile with Full Dentures or Partial Dentures
Dentures offer relief for those needing to replace the majority or all of their teeth. Being one of the oldest teeth replacement methods, some patients still prefer dentures over implants due to their convenience and affordability. In South Miami, your restorative dentist can design a full or partial denture that fits your replacement needs and blends with the rest of your smile. These dentures are removable as well, which makes oral hygiene much easier and allows for comfortable sleep. We also offer implant-retained prosthetics for patients who are interested in a more permanent reconstructive solution.
For patients who are edentulous, Aesthetic Dentistry of South Miami can design full dentures that restore appearance as well as oral health. When a patient is missing all of their teeth along the upper or lower arch, the consequences can be far reaching. Edentulous patients may be unable to maintain a varied and healthful diet, which can lead to malnutrition. The effects on appearance extend beyond an incomplete smile to include the deterioration of facial structure; without teeth to provide stimulation, bone tissue atrophies and the face takes on a sunken appearance.
A full denture consists of a gum-colored base upon which natural-looking prosthetic teeth are attached. Your dentist will design dentures that fit comfortably and snuggly along your gums. Although a full denture does require some adjustment time, be sure to inform your dentist if there are any points along the gum where the denture is causing irritation. We can modify the base for a more comfortable fit.
Full dentures are held in place by suction, cheek muscles and, when needed, denture adhesives. For an even more secure fit, Aesthetic Dentistry of South Miami provides implant retained dentures. These dentures are held in place by dental implants that are strategically positioned along an arch. With dental implants, dentures become a permanent restoration.
Whether a patient is missing one tooth or several, a partial denture is a comfortable and dependable tooth replacement option. This oral prosthetic fits between or among your remaining teeth much like a puzzle piece. False teeth, custom crafted to match the color, size and shape of a patient’s natural teeth, are attached to a gum-colored base that is held in place by brackets or clips.
Both full and partial dentures require daily hygiene care with a non-abrasive denture cleaner. Neither should be worn overnight, so that gum tissue can be bathed in saliva. While sleeping, denture wearers should store their full or partial denture in water (an effervescent denture cleaner may be added to the water if desired), so the appliance does not warp.
